NAGGW ORGANISES FIRE SAFETY TRAINING

In its quest for proper safety of its staff and properties, the National Agency for the Great Green Wall has organised one day safety training in collaboration with the FCT fire Service.
The Director General, NAGGW, Mr. Goni Ahmed said the training is vital as safety is very key in any organisation. He said one of the major components of the GGW programme in Nigeria is to establish Green Wall or shelterbelt stretching from Kebbi state to Borno state, a distance of 1,500km and 15km across.
The DG said, there is the need for collaboration with the National Fire Service for training of the Agency’s forest personnel in the near future especially in the area of forest fire detection and control for the protection of the GGW plantation in the 11 frontline states where the programme is implemented.
In his presentation, Chief Superintendent of Fire, Mr Timveh Jerry, took the participants through a thorough presentation. He said the main objective of training of such is to sensitize on how to handle and prevent fire outbreak, encourage participants to spread the knowledge across to others as well as periodically service the fire extinguishers amongst others.
His topics included, causes of fire, distinguishing media, fixed installations, mitigation strategies and safety tips which he took time to enumerate. He said it is mandatory for government organisations to have such trainings to avert and handle fire disasters.
The session was educative and interactive as participants took turns to ask questions on fire safety both at work place and at home.
The training ended with a practical demonstration of how to handle fire disaster during fire outbreaks using different types of fire extinguishers.
