Akobundu Extols Commitment to Women’s Development…As Imo Women August Meeting Ends in Owerri

The National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer, NEPAD Nigeria, Princess Gloria Akobundu has described women as homebuilders, peace makers, moral instructors and guiders of the nation and the family, without whose involvement in life, she said, the world would not move at its regular pace.

Princess Akobundu stated this today while fielding questions to journalists in Owerri, Imo State at the Imo State Women’s August Meeting 2017, which held at the Heroes’ Square, Owerri.

While emphasising the noble role women play in society as mothers, sisters and wives, the NEPAD Nigeria boss said it was hard to imagine life without women, who give everything of themselves to ensure that life is made worth its while.

The NEPAD Nigeria CEO lauded the great commitment the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and his amiable wife, Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha are constantly putting into making the yearly event better than each preceding one, insisting that history would be kind to them for the progress they have achieved by providing a veritable platform for women to interact and make progressive impacts that can endure.

Among those who were present at this year’s Women’s August Meeting in Imo State were the wife of the President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, who it was gathered, flew in from London, United Kingdom to attend the event. Several wives of the Governors were also present.

The yearly event, which had its theme as “Women: Building Bridges of Friendship Across the nation… There is Strength in Unity” is a clarion call for unity and peace among the different ethnic groups that make up the Nigerian Federation; especially, coming at a time there seems to be major cracks on the wall of the nation’s unity.
